Основная же его задача – следить за ресурсом. Во многих простых лазерных принтерах для дома он никак не влияет на работу с точки зрения пользователя. В то же время, все новые струйные устройства используют чип, который блокирует работу с случае израсходования запаса чернил. В недорогих чернильных картриджах, чип не умеет измерять реальный остаток чернил в нем. Он опирается на расчетное количество чернил, потраченное при печати. Рассчитывается оно исходя из количества напечатанных страниц и их заполнения чернилами. Поэтому, часто можно столкнутся с ситуацией когда чернила в картридже еще есть, а принтер говорит что он уже пустой.
